anybody know a good pattern for mullet. there is a small estuary near me full of them. there just jumping in the air <b>laughing</b> at me ! :evil:

I heard of a fly called the "sewage fungus" fly a cpl years ago - used to target mullet feeding around the outflow pipe from the hatchery at the salmon research place in Newport - dirty green lump of fluff apparently, very appropriately named as well, and since thats what the mullet were feeding on - sh*t from the hatchery :roll: - also very successful (quite a few specimens taken on fly. Not sure how it would work in the estuary situation!

have had limited success on bread flies. tricky to dewscribe but there basically a load of white ostrich herl whipped with a size 8 caddis type hook. il try and find a pic of it on the net

It`s prob considered cheating by some but myself and a mate had sucess using small pices of Partridge Artifical bread mounted on size 8`s last year in West cork with the fly rod. Biggest fish went 5lb 1oz and what a scrap.

I did mate, been using it for carp and tench for a few seasons (with great results at that) and had though it would be perfect for mullet from the 1st time i saw it, i was right! We found soaking it in Cod liver oil made it even more attractive to the mullet with far more positive takes.

Hmm....

I think it's called Marabou in english to. It's a flie-tying material.. fluffy-stuff ;)

One of the best flies for mullet that is currently very successful is one called the green deceiver- this one seems to work most consistantly. Made from bright green Marabou.

There are others (about six which also do catch them). I cant post an image but if you do need any of the flies i can PM them to you.
