Ballycarry causeway

Anyone ever fish the causeway between Ballycarry and Islandmagee? Read some old reports of decent fishing in the pools at low tide.

Hi. I have fished the lough once or twice targeting flounder but I not SWFFing. Heard that the flounder fishing used to be fantastic there but not so sure that it is now.
Have heard that the odd bass moves through the lough too.
What you hoping to catch on the fly - sea trout? mullet?

Nothing specific interested to see what's there. New to fly fishing in salt water with zero success so looking to try out different spots. I'd be happy with anything to start with.

Cheers for the reply.

If you are just starting out then I suggest fishing in deeper water over kelp beds, or a round structures, where you might find pollack or coley. You might need a sinking line for this, you would have a better chance of getting a bend in the rod
I wouldn't be fishing the 'pools' in Larne lough as I doubt there will be too many species in them (doubt there will be many fish in them at all tbh) that will a readily take a fly, unless there is the odd sea trout or mullet hanging around - but these species can be tricky to catch and might be better targeted at a later date once you have your eye in
good luck

Thanks for the advice and taking the time to reply. Have been trying those kind of places like you said but only recently using a sink tink on fly line, hopefully that will make all the difference.

No bother
Its mainly all about finding the fish. You could spend hours casting catching nothing wondering if you have the 'correct fly' on etc, but pollack and coley will hit just about anything so its probably because there are no fish there. so keep trying different places and depths. if you don't connect with anything after a few casts then keep moving...
good luck
