Has anybody tried (and had success with) fly fishing in the Broadmeadows Estuary at Malahide for Sea-Trout or Bass? I have heard stories of fish being caught but have yet to see anybody fishing within the estuary although have seen a couple of fish rise which im fairly sure were not mullet. Would appreciate any pointers from anybody and will keep any marks private if requested.

Not sure about bass but have had sea trout there spinning- had to work hard for them though. Think they were caught close enough in so may be within rage with a fly rod. lot of walkers on the malahide side though so backcast may be a problem. Unless you walked down donabate beach and fished that side- good luck

Try fishing on the ebb tide ,it should concentrate the trout to the deeper channels making it easier to locate them ,or try the slack areas off the main channels on the flood the trout will often be located at the edge of the current ,if you have fished for trout in rivers the seatrout will have similar habits and locations just on a bigger scale, try small Sandeel imitations about 2" long any longer and they will just nip the tail ,the trout are there just keep at it and when ye get one take note of location and state of tide etc. They are creatures of habit and will probably in the same place next time
