Youghal Area

Sat Jan 07, 2017 4:29 pm

All,
A last minute change of plans has given me a free day tomorrow so I am hoping to get to the South Coast for a session.
Thinking of heading to the Youghal area with the fly rod. Any reports of fish moving(Seat Trout / Bass) or am I wasting my time?
Weather and tides look favourable.

Thanks in advance.

Eoin

Did you go afterwards? The weather wasn't the worst . . .

I was out a week and a half ago and got plagued with whiting

I went and fished the last three hours rising tide and the first of the ebb but had no luck.
Lovely day to be out and conditions were great.

Not having fished the area in the Winter months before I was going blind.

Did you fish inside in the estuary or out the open coast? Were you on the fly ?

Shortcircuit I was out on the open Coast with the fly rod.
Down towards the west side of the bay.

Ah OK I get you.I never fished that side of the bay couple of spots I always wanted to try.

I find it tough enough to cast a fly inland on a calm day I can't imagine doing it on the coast

Im afraid I wouldn't be the best caster in the world but I find it a great way to fish. The coast can be a challenge!!! :)

Do you use a salmon rod or do you have a dedicated swff outfit

I use a dedicated SWFF setup. The Redington Predator #8 is my rod of choice. Have that coupled with an Okuma reel and Airflo 40+ lines.
I use the same setup for Pike from the bank or tube.
