was looking through some on my SP's at weekend and thinking the smaller ones (hart absolut worm 4") would/might fish very well on an 8 weight rod with 1/0 hook.....anyone any ideas if this would work???

Seen Mike Ladle talking about using small rubber eels on a fly rod on his blog. might be worth a look http://www.mikeladle.com/archive/catch320.htmlhttp://www.mikeladle.com/archive/catch369.html

The real trick is to cast clouser minnows with a light lure rod......!

I can't think of a single salmon fly pattern which represents an actual fly. Even the March Brown which was one of my most reliable salmon flies when I was in my teens was invariably at least twenty times bigger than the real thing .
The term 'fly' is a fairly loose one. No matter what it is - or looks like, if you can cast it with a fly rod you are 'fly' fishing.

Smaller unweighted SP's should be ok, but try fish them with an 8 weight or heavier to help the casting.
