New to fly

Fri Jan 24, 2014 12:30 pm

Got my first taste of salt water fly fishing.
Completely hooked sorry about the pun.
Have a mate who knows tons about it and is giving me lessons.

And advice on rods.
Like to hear about starting kits from others as well here if ye can. Be much appreciated.
Budget is about €300

Need reel rod line flies
Have all other gear waders Breathables etc
Thanks in advance

Kind regards

I bought a Redington pursuit SW outfit last year, 9 weight. Have yet to use it though. Came with reel, line and backing as well.

Checkout these 2 SWFF audio podcasts from phill williams - 2 hours in total

episode 1 - http://www.fishingfilmsandfacts.co.uk/p ... ling73.mp3

episode 2 - http://www.fishingfilmsandfacts.co.uk/p ... ling74.mp3

Plenty of other podcasts there too on sea, coarse and game.

Thanks lads. Appreciate all help.

Had rod strapped to hand today to keep wrist making bending.

I just read that again and it's not as it sounds. Lol

A Flextec CDX 66 11 foot #8/9 will cost you around 80 euro including postage. Its a switch rod which you can fish single or double handed - makes a difference when your wrist gets tired. Marry it to a Caimore #11 shooting head (£8) and your good to go.

I've been fly fishing for almost 60 years and these rods are value for money.
