pollock on the fly

does anyone target pollock on fly?
Q1 do you use floating or sinking line?
Q2 do you go for deep/very deep/or shallow at low water mark's?
Q3 do you fish yellow/blue/brown/purple wit pink spots, black flies or any combo of the rainbow?
Q4 would you be willin to put a pic of the fly up for a gander?

I can definitely give my opinion on this.

Pollock are lazy buggers. They won't move far from where they are sitting (Usually on the bottom, behind rocks. They are trying to ambush prey). For this reason, floating line is out.
Quick sinking line is best, you can always strip faster.

A fairly quick retrieve will get them when you are fishing a large sandeel fly.

I'm going to go out on a limb here and tell people what THE trick is to catching more pollock.

Short tails. Pollock will attack the fish and grab the tail. If the fish continues going, they won't bother with it anymore. If you don't hook them first off, your chances of getting him again are very slim. Like when the greyhound catches the rabbit.


Now bigger tails will catch bigger fish. But believe me, you will catch 80% more fish by tying flies using the above formula.

I sometimes use a tiny fly when fishing is tough. (size 14 shrimp fly)

what about colour?
I hear the brighter colour the better?

Colour in my opinion doesn't count.

Movement does.
I have hooked and lost (Smashed the line )my biggest pollock(s) using:
1) A traditionally deciever with the addition of Marabou Palmering.
2) A simple fly tied of silver flashabou extending to 4 inches on 4/0 hook.
