Flyfishing for Mullett

Postby Joe C » Sun Oct 26, 2008 9:39 am

Hi all,

Can anybody tell me what sort of flyline to use for Mullett?
I did read somewhere that a finer diameter line would be a
better choice.Unable to locate same, just being told of the
different line-weights.

Thanks.

It's pretty much irrelevant - use a floating line and use a fine, light leader. That's the bit that's going to be near the fish anyway, not the actual flyline.

Locating the mullet, tempting them to feed, or matching what you think they are already feeding on is the biggest challenge.

i use it when float fishing and have had all 3 grey mullet species on it but no reason why it shouldnt on the fly. it is probably more effective on the fly rod.
the key is to feed, if you get them in a frenzy they'll eat anything that looks like food it it just hooking them.
