Hokkai lures

Thu Sep 02, 2004 10:15 pm

Perhaps I shouldn't ask, but as Mike Ladle uses Redgill type sandeels for fly fishing, has anyone tried a Hokkai lure?
Tried to fish with a cliff behind me and lost the fly. All I had was a set of Hokkai feathers and thought a single one might do the trick as they are very good for mackerel. Lost that as well, but at least you do get a string of 3 or 5 quite cheaply!

Hokkai shrimps

Fri Sep 03, 2004 7:03 am

Not quite fly fishing - I sometimes use a single hokkai shrimp with a pinch of lead to drop into deep slack water at a local shore mark. This is whilst using a light spinning rod and 10 lb. b.s. line. It is good sport for pollack, quite often see them examining the shrimp and not taking. Have caught them up to about 8 lb. - average about 4lb. Water has to be slack otherwise shrimp will not sink. Do not like using too much lead otherwise shrimp action is spolied.
