salmon rod ?

Postby roger de dodger » Fri May 18, 2007 7:09 pm

was working for a mate of mine and his father in law got chin waggin with me about fishing and told me he had a salmon rod which was given to him by his father in west cork who got it of his father , who was given it by the local MP of the day . the rod is at least 100 years old and made of greenheart so he tells me , needless to say he took it out of the shed to give me a look ,its still in its origanal cloth bag and besides the tip (which is missing )all rings look origanal it is two peice and has no ferrules, where the two sections join are spliced and fit into a little nich in each peice , the handle is cork with brass reel fittings . I recon the rod is 12-13 feet long ,i have never seen such an old rod he is going to show me his reels tomorrow (cant wait )any one know about such rods ie; care and maintenance as he told me someone told him to rub linseed oil on it i told him not to till asked because it may do more harm than good thanks roger
