yes if its 2 say 4inch calamari squid of course you will need to present it on bigger hooks and best pennell style. but if its 2 whole baby squid a 1/0 will hold them fine.
everyone to their own but when fishing here i normally use the flapper rig as distance casting isnt normally required as the beach is normally fished over the lower part of the tide and the channel is in easier casting range.
try from the marina wall itself over the higher part of the tide and it doesnt take a big cast to find the channel from here either.
using size 1's or 1/0s and smaller baits you stand the chance better of hooking whatever species takes an interest in your baits, and a ray whether big or small will still take a small bait if it comes on it and a strong small hook will hold it. ive used and also seen others use this rig a number of times here and seen it take double dogs, double rays (6lb each) ,double figure rays, tub gurnard , flounder where if bigger hooks had have been used half of the fish probably wouldnt have been hooked.
use common sense and match the size of hook used to the size of the baits which you expect to be using.
even seen a ray around 8-9lbs caught on baited mackerel feathers trace here last year!!
