Winter wrecking in Cork-an invitation

Tue Jan 24, 2006 10:17 am

Fancy wrecking in Cork over the next couple of weeks?

As its so weather dependant, it may involve midweek fishing and it will probably be at very short notice (a couple of days).

I'd love to put a trip together ,using mark gannon, to target the big coalfish out of courtmacsherry and am trying to make up the numbers.

Anyone interested PM me and we'll see if we can make this happen

Yeh Rob the grin on those smiley's looks just like yours in the Irish Angler pics! no wonder you just hit it right there, great pics. Will just have to read about fishing untill March now, still at the diy unfortunatley and same goes for Bigcol in fact he has no chance for a while as well, he is about to move house, just seen him tonight daubing lilac paint on  , hopefully make up for it in the spring!
Good look Kev hope you get a party together.

Plenty there I am sure lads, just reallya case of getting the weather right to do it. We were lucky on that front. Its a great battle though they never give up right to the boat!!

does anyone have an idea as to why the wrecks off the south coast hold the big coalies and the ones off the north west dont?
i know we have tried over 20 miles out off downings etc december and january before but the stamp of fish is still no bigger than it is during the summer...basically youre lucky to hit a double figure pollack or coalie.

Hammered flat every turn about by gill netters.

big coalies down south

Weird isnt it, big coalies not showing up on the Northern wrecks.
They turn up from iceland all the way across to Norway, and thrive in cold water.
The northern wrecks really ought to hold big uns

May have omitted to mention that trawlers regularly come as close to them as they can as well.....
