Donegal charter Feb 19th? 50 euro

Postby scrob » Sat Feb 05, 2011 1:00 pm

Anybody up for taking a boat off Donegal on Sat 19th Feb? I am not fussy on location but was thinking either Downings or Culdaff.

Been looking at costs for a few boats and you are talking about 50-60 euro per head if we could round up 8 people for the trip.

So, who's in????????????????

Ahh unlucky paddy! Can't do the following weekend myself unfortunately :(

Cathal, I'm sure it would be no problem to split the costs so that Dyland could go cheaper would be good to get a young lad along!

Right I will get a list going here and if we have 8 people by the end of the week I will get a boat booked!

1. Rob
2. Cathal
3. Dylan

Ps Paddy make up an excuse for why you can't go to the 60th ;)

Too short notice for me, have to fork out for some work on car soon. Early March/April would suit me perfectly if you organise again Rob :p

Excuse me I would like a more comitted attitude than that! :P

No worries beachbrat, I will see how organising this one goes, I am heading off travelling April-august though so this particular weekend is probably the only one that is going to suit me.

More info needed! :D

What's the target species? How likely to actually hit them?

A bit of codding would be pleasant. Trying for some flatties would be fun. Pollock & coalies - meh. Get those things any time of year, usually in better weather and when they're not gone offshore for spawning.

Are any of the boats working this early in the year?

What's this about being away April-August? You'll miss the best of the sea-trout.....

Just finishing my chartered accountancy this month and then heading away travelling with the missus for a well earned break... Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia, Australia, New Zealand and Japan.. so as much as I will miss the trout, I'll get them again

Got 2 more people waiting to give me an answer later in the week about the boat trip, so if all the maybes become definites we only need another couple to fill a boat!

I will get a few phone calls in later this week to see what boats are running and what we can target. Agree that you can get pollack and coalies any time though big ones would still be a welcome catch ;)

I've done a bit of salt and freshwater angling in Thailand. Got some contacts if you're interested.
IDPearl fishes Malaysia and Singapore.
JPS is SAI's Aussie correspondent.

Dunno about NZ and Japan, don't think we've got those covered.

19th sounding better and better.

The two boats in Culdaff have skippers who know what they are at and will find fish for you

Telephone: +353 (0)74 9370605 or +353 (0)86 2522685 Fax: +353 74 9370764

Think this will get you through to John Henry the owner and you might be able to wangle an off season price

Just spoken to him, he won't do it less than 450 but he says 10-12 people is no problem, so cost just comes down to how many we can round up.

He says next Saturday shouldn't be a problem providing the weather plays ball! :)

Phoned the boat owner again there, he's not sure if the weather will have settled by the weekend, says to call him later in the week. He's to speak to one of the skippers this week to find out how the fishing is and will let me know in a couple of days what way its looking for the weekend. He said cod have been pretty scarce but looked to be making a comeback last year, will let me know better once he speaks to the skipper..
