Lazy Lug

Has anyone tried the lazy lug preserved lug worm? Got some in Veals online; going to try it in Arthurstown next week.Wonder if its any good?

ive heard of people catching on it but i personally have used it on its own and in cocktails and never had a bite ????

flounder is all i caught on them...and prob all they r good for 2bh...

I have caught loads of coalies on it they seem to love them, used it against mackerel, sandeel, mussel and crab and the only thing that I got bites on was the lazy lug, so I always have a tub in the box just in case I run out of fresh lug

I've had pretty much the same experience - blanked every time I've used it. :oops:
In it's favour though, it stays on the hook pretty well, and it can be kept in the tackle box for those days when you can't get any fresh bait.
Apparently they're going to release lazy rag sometime this year.

I have used it 4 times and didn't get a touch on it. On a recent session I was fishing a few different baits all of which were being striped by crab except the lazy lug. If the crabs turn their nose up at it I cant see a fish being interested.

To put it bluntly, I think its a big pile of crap and belongs in the same dungeon as that pickled lug and rag you used to be able to buy in vacuum sealed little bags or that freeze dried rubbish Seaniebo had the misfortune to buy a week or two back. I tried it on several venues, including some where coalies were coming in 3 at a time on mack strip and didnt have a touch. The smell of the stuff is terrible too. It does look the part though but I would have about as much faith in that as I would in casting a jelly worm from the beach.

Seen in the local tackle shop for 9e, bout 25 worms, thats a rip off really. I can see how its handy if you cant get out digging but there is no substitute for fresh lug.

Put it this way.
The only people that I ever heard saying that it was good were shop owners that were trying to sell it.

Your better off grabbing a wrap of frozen blacks at that price TBPH. Not that they are wonderful either but they do seem to pick up a few alright.

Id say stay away from them...last resort!! stick with the frsh lug nothing better! and come on 9euro a pop thats a joke!

Thankx to all for their replies. Im in the old dilemma; i might decide (or get permission!) to go fishing at 5 pm any day after work. Its 1.5 hours to any mark in wexford, so time is limited. I have a fridge full of frozen bait; squid, mack, sandeel, but fresh is hard to get. I thought that the lazy lug would be a godsend, but reading the comments im not sure. Are frozen blacks much better?Whats the answer for someone in my predicament?

frozen blacks can work very well on certain venues- particularly when tipped of with crab, fish, worm or mussell(pretty much anything and everything!). whip or weave onto hook. best let them thaw out before fishing as they are easier to bait up. only use a hook shank length of worm unles fish want big baits or chasin codling. sometimes frozen outfishes fresh....

its not as good as fresh, or frozen, but good if you have neither! have had fish on it so i cant knock it totally.

Whats the answer for someone in my predicament?

Not sure if it's already been covered, but briefly: Salted lug :)

1) Dig some lugworm
2) Clean the sand off them and lay them out on newspaper for a few minutes to absorb the surface water
3) Transfer onto fresh newspaper (lots of) and completely cover in table salt
4) Leave them for anything from 8 - 36 hours and remove the shriveled up worms.
5) Store them somewhere cool and dry

Have used lazy lug and fresh lug at the same venue and caught nothing on the lazy and codling on the live lug!So im never going to buy it again :roll:
