problems with coleman powerhouse lantern

ive had the coleman as 8 years trouble free except for changing the odd mantle but fired it up earlier and it keeps blinking it seems that theres a blockage somewere does anybody know what the problem could be

it sounds like the generator is gone in it. happened my last year. easily replacable with a part from veals

generator, richard in mid antrim angling centre ballymena could be worth a ring, or else the great outdoors at the new premises (previously mid antrim camping, opposite camerons)

had similar problem with one of mine years back, thats what it was at the time

I had a problem with my coleman powerhouse lantern a few years back so i contacted the makers of the lanterns. (colemans)
They couldn't supply the parts :(
But they did give me the contact number for their registered main repair workshop/spare part supplier for coleman products :)

He gave me great advise and could tell me the exact problem with the lantern over the phone.
I would use a local tackle shop for fishing supplies.
But what would you do :? Local shop (part+repair= £25+)

from what i remember, i fitted it myself, and the part wasnt too pricey..

i agree with rest a gen problem try. any good camping store or this.

Have a quick question about the twin mantle coleman powerhouse lantern (as shown in picture).

Initially when we got the lamp it worked fine but as the above posts have mentioned its not working to its full capacity and will eventually dull and turn off. Once it stops working, I would give it a complete strip down (trying not to damage the mantles). Then when I start it up again it burns as bright as the sun but after an hour or so then the problem reaccurs. There is no split in the generators side but a blockage seems to occur in the little nut at the end of the generator (very small nut at the end of the generator in the picture below).

I have to unblock the small hole in the nut with a pin and a blow torch every time it stops working! My question is what fuel do people use in their lanterns. This I think may be the cause of the problem, I've always used unleaded petrol but I can only imagine that this will have a lot more impurities that kerosene or the coleman lantern fuel. What are people recommendations?

Lads i bought a coleman Northstar its a new one out and it takes a small tank of propane gas. Is it a standard coleman propane gas tank i need and where do i get one??

I use unleaded myself Deno.... Make sure it is fresh Petrol that you use. Petrol has a tendency to Gum if left for long periods of time. Coleman fuel is very expensive, but can be handy for flushing out any blockages... my advice would be to clean it and run it with some Coleman fuel for an hour or two. Then use fresh unleaded as normal. Keep the coleman fuel for the future on case you have any problems.
