Looking for a 2 - 4oz beach/estuary rod

Will keep this short...

Am looking for a new light beachcaster. 13ft rung for multiplier casting 2- 4oz.

Currently have a Cerntury Tip Tornado Lite 2 - 4oz which I don't like, much too stiff and twitchy for what I want it for, want something I can cast and fish with, this thing seems to be more suited for just smashing leads (and baits) over the horizon... Just want something a little softer and more user friendly...

Suggestions please!

What price range are you aiming at?
Abu Enticer Beach 12'- Rated 3-6 (2-4 more realistic) Approx E65.
Abu Enticer Bass 12' - Rated 1-3 Approx E55.
Bath are light rods with a bit of strength in the spine and enough give in the tip for bite indication. Both are light enough to hold for a session without your arms falling off.
Anything dearer is outside my knowledge at the moment but others can fill you in.

they also do a 12 foot i think which has a bit more back bone to it.

penn powerstix bass is a lovely rod. i can't remember how much i paid for it but that's a good thing! something around the 100 yoyo mark maybe less. light, well balanced and can thump a 3oz lead a fair distance when needed.

i have the Abu Enticer Bass 11' 1-3oz nice wee rod tho it is a fixed spool there is some lovely wee rods out there 2-4oz Shakespeare's summit bass rod is lovely rod to be honestest Shakespeare do sell some good multi rods and flattey rods and there not to bad on price

they do a 12' alright. personally i think they are too short.

Try the Grauvell 4200, fecking love the thing. Its like a combination of a feeder rod and a beachcaster. The reel seat is a wee bit too near the butt, otherwise its my favourite light surf rod, can imagine it would be perfect for estuaries.

Century SRE. Fantastic tip for close in work. The tip would show a fish fart beside your line. Also has the back bone to put a lead a long long way if needed. Can't say enough about it. Although it is dearer than the rest I feel that this 1 rod would do everything :wink:

Tip Tornado Lite is a great little rod, i have both versins, 11/10 and 13 footer,

Lite, responsive and can cast too believe it or not.

Thanks for the replies lads. Want to stay away from the whole long rod thing on this one so will steer clear of the Century CM SRE and the Gauvell stuff.

The 12ft Flattie Fanatic sounds like the business or the Conoflex SOURCE Estuary Match or standard SOURCE caught my eye as well.

Will steer clear of any more "light" rods from Century found the tip tornado Lite too stiff for my needs but the Zziplex Bass might be a contender...

Would be interested to hear of anyone who has experience of the SOURCE from Conoflex...

i have never heard a bad word about the conoflex source and many top anglers use'em. some even have 2! have not tried myself though...

The Zziplex powertex bass, very good rod for most fishing and can even be blasted with a 5oz lead. Not sure of the lighter zziplex bass rod though, but if you think the tip tornado lite was too stiff for your type of fishing I would recommend you stay away from the powertex zippy. It is very stiff.

conoflex estuary match, century tip tornado ultra light 13, there are a few other rods out there but some suited to lighter leads and different lengths
conoflex website worth a look although it doesnt list them all.
if you give them a call and tell them what kind of rod it is you are after they will be able to advise you on choice

There's three that kinda fit the bill from conoflex for me, first there's the Frenzy 13ft 4-5oz. Tip dia is 3.0mm and weighs in at 610g. Factory build for £199.

Next up is the budget version of the Source. It's called the Source Estuary Match 13ft 3 - 5oz. Tip dia is 3.5mm and weighs is at 720g. Factory build for £212

Finally it's the Conoflex Source 13ft 3 - 5oz. Tip dia again is 3.5mm with a weight of 763g. Factory build for £334

to me, the source and the source estuary are to completely different animals!
the source is to me, a beachcaster/match rod for the bigger fish
where the estuary match would be more suited to scratching/flounder fishing, but still capable of firing out the rigs if required! at the time i had one in the house it seemed to me like a longer flattie fanatic, with a similar butt diameter
the source would be slightly thicker in the butt, and guys who have them here would use them for fishing dogs at distance with say 2 hooks, or fishing in a heavier surf with 3 hooks for flats etc, the the estuary would be better suited to calm conditions for fats and smaller 'match' sized fish etc

Conoflex SOURCE Estuary Match

Lovely rod, used it last night in an attempt to bash out whiting unsuccesfully. Posted recently about it if you search but I would highly recommend them. Use mine with ABU sports mag and 15lb line. Nice slim blank and comfortable to hold for longer periods when required. It even dragged these in at Fenit Pier last year.

Have also posted back end of the summer about the Daiwa Supercast Bass. Replaced my TDPK Bass which got smashed. Only used it one weekend for pollock off SW Scotland but feels lovely. Have yet to try it off the beach for the lighter work but when flicking daylights with 4oz to gather bait it is lovely and smooth. Much smoother than the TDPK. Although the pollock didn't go much more than 2.5lb it took the dives when floating and stopped them going to ground when bumping jellies off the bottom.

BigPhil is right about the Flattie Fanatic and the Estuary Match being similar. Put them side by side and it looks like the EM is the FF's big brother.

If you want any advice give Steve a ring at Conoflex and he'll tell you what the difference is in all three.

I posted a bit about them recently when the Foo Fighter was discussed. I'm getting some info about them and will post when it's available. Hope this helps.
