Yeah I have one. They are very nice but it all depends on what you are looking to use it for. For generally fishing its lovely but what I have found is that its too stiff for your smaller fish and smaller baits i.e. match fishing purposes.

Having owned a pair of these, IMO, "they are great clean ground rods and not to stiff, but very user friendly".
Excellent match fishing rod, but would struggle on the rough ground and strong tidal pulls or where weed was a problem. For those reasons I changed to Zziplex Dymic HST's.
Good distance with little effort pendulum style, and very gentle on delicate baits.
Optimum casting weight 4oz, although I nearly always used 5oz which is stated as MAX.

I think Wayne had a go at me for having a go at this rod before :-) but I'm sorry I don't like it! Got one when they came out a few years ago, was a good bit of hype, think it was the first production ZZiplex with that Fuji triggergrip reel seat etc. etc. as well and all the rest of it.

5oz with bait is a maximum and for a rod with such a light casting weight (4-5oz) I still think the tip is much too thick and bite detection suffers. Having said that it the tip is soft enough to sit well in the tide and shows up plenty of bites. Casting wise it just doesn't suit me or feel right to me but does allow for a lovely slow pendulumn to produce good distances.

If you're really set on this rod I'll happily offload it if a second hand one would suit! Good condition and only occasionally used... :-) :-)

Hi lads.I have the 3500s but I find it a touch soft.I was looking at the vmax but it sounds like it could also be a bit soft.I was also looking at the 50/50.Any ideas/recommendations?Mostly clean beach fishing 4-6 ounces.

Respect your thoughts on this rod :wink: .

Everyone will get something different out of the same rod.
Best advice i can give to anyone is, try before you spend your money, if possible.

I do not own the VMax F2's anymore, as my fishing style/type changed, and were no longer siutable for me.

Have to agree the Tip is too thick and I too found that it does not sit right or feel right, can't fully explain that but a few others that have bought them and said the same and since sold them. :?

Zziplex rods are the one rod above all others that you should try before you buy....Terry Carroll probably knows more about surf casting rods than any man alive, everyone knows his rods are the best.

That said...a lot of anglers want a Zziplex so quick that they take any model available at the time and sometimes blame the rod when in fact they've bought a rod that either doesn't suit them in casting style or doesn't suit the kind of fishing they want it for.

I have Zziplex rods that I wouldn't part with but over the years I've traded or sold quite a few that just didn't suit me...each to his own, but if a guy wants a Zziplex or any other rod and buys from word of mouth, he is taking a chance....IMHO the good news with Zziplex is, you will probably get what you paid for it, not so with some others.

My personal Favorite was the equal section 2500 Gemini....I would kill for one now.

There's a second hand 1 knocking around for about 300 euro and I'm tempted. Always wanted a Zippy,a Ferrari too for that matter,but now I'm not so sure. My casting leaves alot to be desired!

Will be used mostly for Clean beach fishing, have rods for the rough stuff.
I might hold out till The Angling Show in Feb and have a chuck with the 50/50, Tonys Tackle will have them I'm sure.

Another 2 Rods suggested were the Daiwa TNXS 130m and the TNXS 134 M.

IMHO it would be money well spent to go with a casting instructor for an hour.....you may have a rod that you dont think suits you in some way, if an instructor sees how you use it, he may make you suit the rod better, it happened that way many times.

Sometimes just a few inches of drop(long or short) can be the difference mate.

Just my two cents on this one... I've bought Zziplex this and Century that over the last few years and my absolute favourite beach rods are still Daiwa Supercasts. I have the old and new model both 13ft PM's and absolutely love 'em. Some people might think they're very middle of the road and priced likewise which is even better me thinks!

I know Alan Yates used to fish with the standard M version of the older model, when Paul Kerry was down here last year in Kerry that's all he was using and John Holden raved about them (the PM's) way back in Sea Angler 2004 sometime when the newer model was released. For user friendly pendulum "fishing" rods I've found nothing better - they just suit me I guess.

Look at the M version for slightly lighter beach work while the PM will happily take 6oz and a big bait and it will help you cast it I promise :-)

Thanks again for the replies. I had a couple of different Zipplex rods in my hands over the weekend and couldn't believe how slim they were and how soft the tips were. I was almost afraid to pick them up to be honest. The V Max seemed really light but I didn't cast with it. I did like the feel of the LT 14? Seemed to have alot more backbone, I guess I really need to have a chuck with some. That said the Daiwa's keep cropping up with all the boxes ticked too!

This is like Rod Idol!
