penn- super long distance surf(mono)

have tried this out over the last few months. not one for a multiplier! it burns into your thumb on retrieve! not pleasant. sits reasonably well on the reel after a few casts and retrieves.

however in the 10lb. it is great on a fixed spool using a tapered leader. it keeps it's strenght well and will get you out of snags even when you think you're doomed. never had any line twist or wind knots using it. casts very well too. would recommend for fixed spool use in lighter breaking strains.

Bought a couple of bulk spools of this stuff last year also, 15/18/20lb. Must say, for the price you can't go wrong. Fixed spool is more suitible though. Have the 18lb on multiplier, thats cause I is useless at casting with finer line..birds nest...a bloody bird colony..... :)

I've used Penn mono for years and never really had a problem with it burning my thumb. The first few turns of the reel until you hit the damp line can be warm due to friction but after that, it's fine. Maybe I'm not reels hard enough? For the money, buy 2 spools and get a 3rd free. It's hard to beat, although I do like Ultima F1 line that I've now changed too.

used penn on the fixed spools for years but never really bother anymore, not due to any problems, just found another few lines that i personally thought were better, but more expensive

ps i did try ultima f1 a time or two, but i would use some of the cheaper ultima lines before i ever use it again, had nothing but problems with it, and it came from 2 different spools, and breaking strains. i found ultima distance the best of their range that i tried
