I don't use FS myself but the brother recntly bought a Penn SurfMaster 70.
He loves it to bits.
Usually loads it with 16 - 18lb line and it does the job alright.....
Gerry's and Veals stock them for around £70stg.

Thanks for the reply G.G :) ,was getting worried the revelation about the surfing was going to put off people replying   seriously i was looking at the surfmaster during the week but the guy selling it said i should go for a shimano, okuma(higher end models)or Daiwa reels....Anyway best of luck with the comp today, sounds like the North are to sloshed to be of any use(either that or there making excuses already :P )

Daiwa Saltiga Surfshould be available over here soon, though obviously price could be a sticky point..
Seen one when i was in Australia recently guy in a tackle shop had one before general release to show off, looked like the dogs B**llocks and felt good n solid.

Why not try for a second-hand reel on ebay.
I bought a Shimano Ultegra 17000 about a year back from a seller on ebay for £65.00 (inc Postage) And it was like brand new.
A fantastic reel for beach-casting.

Yeah i'm currently waiting on the Penn surfmaster 850 from veals! They are selling the 750 and 850 both for £50 in Veals, they have currently run out of stock but will have more in the next few weeks. Seem to be a popular Real anyway.

i have heard of quite a few of the surfmasters not sticking the pace of beach angling, with drag slipping , stripping gears etc....dont understand it with penn, the big spinfishers are smashing, relatively problem free......i am slightly dubious of the new surfmasters as i think that they look like a cheaper build of reel than the original....more plasticy looking or something....?? perhaps they have been made with cheaper parts and this is why they can knock em out cheaper at £50...?

I got one as they were getting good reviews in some magazines and i was looking for a half decent f/s on a budget, If i didn't have a budget ithere would be plenty of other reels i would be gettin, and i think the £50 price tag is an introductory offer with the surfmaster 850 to be priced at around £90, anyway hopefully it'll do the job and not be a waste of money but i'll find out soon enough :) anyway has to be better than the pieces of c**p i'm using now :) (well here's hoping) :?
and yes Glengormly-Gavin i am indeed residing at her majesty's pleasure she just doesn't know what she's let herself in for! The Irish seem to be taking over the Midlands of England Slowly  I cant go anywhere without hearin an Irish accent!
