I have a 12 ft carp rod which turned out to be a bit softer than expected.

bought shimano catana rod and shimano exage reel the rod is nice the reel c..p
whitin few days the line had cut a groove into the graphite on the bail arm
the line also jams inbetween the roller and arm
out today and something went inside the reel its now scrap
very dissapointed.
thats reel no.10 "gone"this yr.

Got a Shimano Catana rod myself and cant fault it at all. Nice action, lovely finish too with the cork handle.

Ok,maybe i should have got the Catana rod (which looked a fine rod) :) Anyway like i said it was a blind buy  But i took it down to the estuary for a few quick casts today to get a feel for the rod and with a crap Daiwa reel (the one that fell apart down in Monkstown a few weeks ago) i managed to send a cast further then i have in along time  It does feel a little on the soft side but it's light and looks like it could show bites easily enough(thats if i ever get anything other than doggies) ....And on a sad note the reel never made it back in one piece..R.I.P :( :( :( :)

it looks like a nice beach rod from what i remember, not suited for the heavier end of things though.

Just noticed, there are shimano Alivio carp rods in the Argos book.I got the Alivio surf just in case anybody thinks i've lost the run of myself and bought a carp rod for beach work.
