Bought one of these reels about this time last year to use for pollack fishing of the rocks. Reel went really well for the first few months then for no apparent reason the anti-reverse would fail usually when I had a fish on. I know I should have used the warranty but decided it wasn't going to cost much so decided to put it into a well known Belfast tackle shop who said they would send it back to the manufacturers. Reel came back with all sorts of things replaced including corroded bearings (in less than a year) and the handle??? I was charged £58 sterling which was more than I payed for the bl***y thing through Veals.
Just to add i look after my gear.
Leason learned.

that is terrible!
maybe best to price the cost of the service with penn before you send it off (for future reference of course, unfortunately too late now)
if it was still under warranty surely they would have to stand over it as long as it wasnt done by ware and tare??? i dont think you should have been out of pocket as a result of it..?

Yes they probably would have but because I put it through a tackle shop that I hadn't bought the reel from, they couldn't (or wouldn't) deal with the warranty. Anyway its over and done with now. I was just surprised how much went wrong with this reel in so short a time. I have never had such problems with a fixed spool before, even relatively cheap ones.

if you are looking a good tough reel for pollack fishing over rough ground take a look at veals website, they are doing the penn spinfishers in the smaller sizes well reduced in a sale on the items.they arent designed as a long casting reel, but they have great guts and wont let you down.
