Howeeyas
First off I have to say what a great resource this site is and even more so that its Irish based. Thanks to the admins and contributors.
Anyway I'm lookin to get back into the oul fishkin. Previously I made do with a daiwa spinning rod and shimano vx reel. Its high time i got a beachcaster and was wondering what yis thought of this deal at Veals.

Penn PowerXstix 13MFS + Original Mag 525 for £155
Alternatively they're doin' the same rod with a shoremaster 70 F/S for £135.
For the extra £20 I reckon the mag deal is better. What do yis think?
I dont expect to be capable of monster casts for at least 20 years so I'm presuming a rod like this wrung for both Multiplier and F/S wont pose any problems?
Lastly any recommendations on 15lb line and shockleader?
Thanks a lot

Welcome to the site.
I have this combo and it is a nice setup for light beach casting, having no problems casting 5oz. It is a really nice blank and is quite light. The original MAG 525 is also a nice reel. Problem is that unless you've used multipliers before you might not like it. They can be a little difficult to get to grips with at the start. Saying that the Mag 525 with all brakes on and some 3&1 oil in the bearings should be easy enough. If your a little unsure go for the fixed spool rell and move to the multiplier when you get to grips with casting.
I like Berkley Trilene for my main line (15lb) and Sakuma for the shockleader (50lb & 60lb)
Good luck with getting back into angling.

I got the Surfblaster Outasite + Supermag combo earlier in the year from Veals.Great set i'd say if you could go the extra few quid go for it.

Thanks for the advice lads.
Sold the young'un and went for the surfblaster/supermag combo in the end. Ordered from Gerrys' as the shipping seems to be cheaper.
Everyone on the east coast should probably wear crash hats for the next few months while I get the hang of this thing.

Good choice.keep in touch and let us know how you get on
One other thing I would say would bring your fixed spool with you on your first few trips in case you birdie the supermag while getting used to it.You wouldn't want it to ruin a nights fishing on you.

Got the rod and reel last friday. At the moment I'm outcasting it with my 9ft spinnin' rod by about 50yds  Still a work in progress I suppose. Im probably being way to conservative with the brakes and also never having cast anything over 3 ounces doesn't help. At least no nests so far.
Bite detection is nice and you still have to work the fish as I found with two very big doggies.
Anyway gonna try and open her up a bit more tonight .
