About to buy a new reel
Has anyone an opinion on the salt safe variety. I see they are gasket sealed but wonder would this be inclined to break down over time

I have been using Shimano Ultegra 10000 for rock fishing and occasional boat fishing. This has been well washed a few times by rain/salt water. Still great reel.
Those who fish for a bass in surfing condition use Penn Slammer (cheaper) or the salt water version of Shimano Twin Power (more expensive).

Entrance level reel the diawa ninja. super cheap reel the shimano hyperloop. After them two it's a case of how long is a piece of string.

What's your budget?

You can also keep an eye out for second hand reels on facebook.

Wash your reels in lukewarm water after each use and a quick wipe with wd40 and they'll be fine.
Catch, release, reminisce & repeat

Budget was about 120. Shimano ultegra €140 abu revo 2 €120 and a Penn fierce 11 €90 was what I'd picked out. All 4000 size. Shop just happened to have the Penn perfect nick 2nd hand for €45 so took that. Hopefully that's a decent enough one.

Hard to go wrong with a penn. Nice find getting one for €45. Best of luck with it.

Daiwa BG 3000 SW

you can find this reel for about 90 euro @ nordfishing77.at
I don't see any reason to go for a bigger size than this on a spinning rod. This reel is a tank. Full metal, very easy to service. Sturdy and very smooth and great drag for this price.

There's also a mag seal model of the BG if you want it but it's about 140.

Tried it on a lake this morning with a few lures. Nice little 4lb pike fell to one so a good start. Lets hope the bass will oblige this summer
