Shakespeare Agility Surf Reel and Penn Squadron 15ft

Thu May 05, 2016 8:39 pm

Hi lads I'm looking to pair this reel with a Penn Squadron 15ft rod. Are they any good for standard beach fishing for flats, bass and maybe even hounds? I've decided to buy new gear as I can cast a good 80 metres with my 11ft rod and smallish reel.
Thanks in advance!

How much is the shakespeare reel you would prob better spending a little more on a shimano it will last you a lot longer than the shakespeare.

Hi I have Shakespeare agility surf reel, its ok I have had alot of fish using it, Thornies, Bass, Hounds etc... The only thing the build quality isnt great, I did have another shaky that broke at the stem, and this one the screws on bail arm dont really hold tight, and line roller traps line ocassional as there is gap. I wouldnt buy another shakespeare reel however I do like there rods though. I have Akios scora 100 and Shimano ultegra XSC 10000 and both excellent for few quid extra, I have 2 Penn rampage Surf 15'9 good rods.

Hi,
I have a pair of those reels. They're grand as a budget reel or a back up. wouldn't take too much hardship though. I used one for a while and it corroded really badly after just one session. My fault since i forgot to rinse it off but i was surprised how bad it was after the one session. Mechanically it was fine for the few weeks i used it though i'm not sure how it would stand up to a season of heavy work. 60 isn't all that cheap either. I would be inclined to spend a bit more for better quality but if 60 is your budget i think id go with one of the budget daiwa models. Never had any issues with their reels and i used them for years.

I've upped the budget to around €90, would the Shimano Beastmaster 7000 be a good reel for beach fishing?
I can't decide between this and a Daiwa Shorecast 6000a...
