Flattie Rod Recommendations

I'm looking to get myself a cheapish rod for using in light surf to target flatties. I have been looking at the Shakespeare Flattie range. There are two kinds, the Salt Extreme and the Agility. From what I have read on-line the Salt Extreme is the older model which happens to be better quality and I have found it for sale online. Does anyone have an experience with these rods?

Or could anyone offer some other suggestions of a rod suitable for casting up to 3oz with decent bite detection? I'm not looking to spend a fortune and the budget is up to around 70 euro.

Ask on this site and see has anyone got a Daiwa supercast bass i have the new one and its a superb light beach/flattie/bass rod with a great tip and lots of power if needed ... It would set ya back about 170 euro now but well worth it but someone might have one second hand
... The salt bass is also meant to be good for the price from shakespear or an ian golds enticer also well worth a look ....

I have 2 rods I use for flats. One if its a very small surf and a sensitive tip is a must to scratch and detect bites . Got it from woodies fladen super lite. . Casts up to 3oz , 4oz Is a bit to much for it. Cost 25€. It is lovely and light to hold too.

The other is the Ian golds match rod casts from a 2oz to 4oz will handle 4oz easy. If surf is up and distance might be needed it is the rod for the job it is the rod I use for most fishing and it is the one that has got the bass on so well able to handle a fight. The top is sensitive to bites such as small rocking coalie but will handle a bit of hard work too. A bite heavy to hold all day but you get use to it. I'll have both with me on Sunday if ya want a look at them.

I have an old salt bass and they are lovely rods for the money. My main bass rod is a daiwa supercast bass which is a great bit of kit. I also have a trabucco fostoria revolution which as mentioned above, has great bite detection and is lovely and light. My trabucco and salt bass are for sale at the moment.

I'm thinking of using my 13 ft shakespeare coarse feeder rod combined with light braid. casts up to 80gs and should give good bite detection me thinks.

There is an Alcedo 3piece 15ft rod for sale on here from AlfieBass, super soft tip and lovely rod for handy money, would certainly do you want and more.

I also have the Supercast bass. Never selling it!

Use ian golds enticer myself great rod for use with a 8ft rig with long soonds and a 3oz breakaway flattie weight defo wort it if you can find one for sale

Thanks for the feedback lads! After reading through the comments I have my eye on either the Ian Golds Enticer or the Salt Flattie. The enticer is a bit a bit outside my budget but looks good and maybe at a push I could stretch to it... The Supercast Bass also look good but is too expensive for me at the moment.

The Alcedo and the trabucco rods are designed to cast up to 200g. Would these rods be too heavy duty for casting 1-3oz leads? Also are these multiplier rods? I should have specified that I am after a fixed spool rod.

Thanks for the offer Dan but won't be fishing the competition this weekend. I remember having a look at the Fladden rod before. It was nice and light. I have a decent look at the rods (and try and sneaky look at your latest rigs) next time we are out!

The Alcedo is for fixed spool and ignore what it's rated to, for use as a Flattie rod it's perfect and within your budget.

I agree. Although my trabucco is rated for 200g. I invariably use it with 90g leads which gives massive distance with an overhead cast. Also, paired with a 6000 size reel, it's very light in the hand.

I have the shakespeare salt extreme flattie rod and i cant fault it
yes its an older rod all right but i find it just an ideal length (11'6") and weight. it has a nice action it has adequate bite detection
it casts 1-3oz, as you probably know already.. its spot-on

have a look at 12 foot pike rods next time your in a tackle shop huge range for small money a 3lb test curve is nice
