Winter Suit for beach...what have you got?

Sun Nov 03, 2013 1:31 pm

Hi all, looking for some suggestions on a Winter suit for beach. I returned to beach fishing earlier this year after long 'sabatical' . I've come to terms with the enormous decline in stocks :( Still eager as ever though :D ...Now 'Tackle Tarts' aside... I'm looking for a decent Winter suit, one or two piece. Who's using what? and what do they think of same. I was out on Greystones the other night in what was left of my old quilted waterproof one piece job, all the zips knackered with salt damage.
There are lots of types out there , but I don't know if 'flash' is outdoing performance.......... so...what have you got? and what is the best out there at the min?
All recommendations considered . Cheers.

Will keep an eye out for how you get on with them ste, the imax is a nice lookin bit of kit, but I believe there have been mixed reports about it's performance. Henry's stocking the Fish Eagle, looks good ( one way zip though ) strippin down for a wiz on a frosty night don't make for comfortable sessions. :? Btw, where did you source the Imax for £99 ? I can't find one for under £116. I presume it''s the thermal one?

I have the Sundridge mk1 suit, its about 12 years old and still keeps me warm and dry 8) .... I also have the Imax thermal suit, its warm alright but its not exactly reliable for keeping rain water out... Also, the Imax suit rips very easily...

Ya I have the fish eagle they a great job, floatation is unreal in them, even just the jacket alone will keep you up, saved my life one night beach casting, the suit as a hole is great, fierce warm and very good quality throughout...

Thanks for the input lads. Imax looks the biz... but 'not keepin water out'' :? eh? ....maybe not. I still have old pair of bib and brace jobs... might pair them with Fisheagle Jacket. Get the best of both worlds zip wise. Then when they finally cave' I'll look for replacement pair.

I got a Imax bib and brace ,Imax jacket cost 100euro for the pair from Veals. Worked out 80 euro cheaper than Henry's.
Great suit I'd recommend it too anyone.

only reason i bought them as my mates have those suits and swear by them have seen them in nasty conditions and they have done there job, the imax floation suit is the grey/orange i have heard bad things about the imax thermo black/red suit leaking etc and the sundridge are highly rated

or if you really wanna treat yourself go for some musto sailing gear some of the jackets go up to €600

I got myself a Penn flotation suit ISO 12402 last Christmas. Best piece of kit I own. It's a two piece suit and is very comfortable. It has kept me warm and dry on numerous occasions and I would recommend it. I can't really comment on it's durability seeing as it is less than a year old but so far so good. I picked one up for about E150 from Land ans Sea Sports in Bundoran.

I have the fish eagle..man is it warm!..no need to worry bout gettin easy access if nature calls...it had a zip for that!..but all in all, it's good, warm and seems reliable so far and since I got it brand new for €95...I'm not complaining!!

I use a retired helly Hansen sailing jacket and add layers as necessary ! It became my fishing jacket when I upgraded the sailing gear a few years back. My wet weather ensemble is finished off with a fetching pair of ex-council hi-vis waterproof trousers.
I'll be in the market for a purpose made suit myself soon so it's good to hear that there is some good quality, reasonably priced gear out there. Thanks lads

I have the fish eagle , the problem i found was the legs where to long and so the bottoms are now badly ripped and the velco strap is all but wasted.

As for your zips a squirt of wd40 now and again helps to keep the salt issue at bay.

Ive got fladen one piece and two piece suits

Although it tells you not too, I stick mine in the washing machine and they come up like new

Only problem i have had with the one piece is it can get too warm!

i use the Sundridge Crossflow Pro 2pc suit and Sundridge Hot Foot Boots keeps me nice warm and dry even at -5c your still warm it is one of the better flotation suits it is a lot lighter than most flotation suits and not that bulky it is pricey £150 for suit and £40 for the boots, if you want to stay warm dry and safe its money well spent i have had mine for 3 years i wash it once a year and re-waterproof it helps stop the thread from rotting and makes it look like new also give it a hose down once every 5 or 6 trips.
