Sonik SKS 12ft Shore Rod - Opinions

Postby cmac » Wed Aug 14, 2013 11:18 am

So I'm thinking to getting the 12ft Sonik SKS shore rod to do some fishing with my 6 year old. We're located in Co. Clare but I'd like to stick to beaches because of the "younger generation" factor. Minding an active 6 year old on a pier or off rocks would definitely mean not getting much fishing done :D I'm thinking spinning for mackerel, luring for bass and chucking bait for whatever might take a bite.
Will a six ounce capacity be enough to chuck baits off the beaches of Clare this autumn or do I need to step up to a full beachcaster?
35 years of trout fishing means I know about rod actions, knots, general rig theory, etc... but this step up to sea tackle is a new direction.
Knowing that one rod is not the best answer to cover mackerel, bass and bait fishing off the beach I'm limited by budget this season so one rod it will have to be.
All opinions gratefully appreciated.

Thanks Shane. How manageable is a 13ft for chucking feathers for an afternoon?
Also, any thoughts on the six ounce limit?

5 to 6oz 13ft rod will be perfect for feathering and bait fishing plus the 13ft will get you a few extra yards
