Speed jigs

I recently bought some speed jigs,I was just wondering if any of you guys use them,if so wats the best way to work them,fast or slow ect any tips for using them for pollock

in my experience very ineffective for pollack, shads, jelly worm, waveworms sluggo etc are at least 20
times better

I like playing around with jigs! I think success or not depends on technique. The combination of rod, line and jig is important.
Important to keep the jig working vertical for as much of the drift as possible. As time has gone by (and I have gotten more used to jigs) I would rate jigs as good as any other lure for catching pollack. I would always only use stinger hooks.

one of the advantages of fishing on charter boats is you get a chance to see and compare maybe
six of seven different methods or rigs. i've done several charters with speed jigging types, who maybe get
one or two fish for the day while everyone else is catching all day, that's my experience anyway.

also, check out last 2 years specimen reports, no mention of speed jigs

Jim,How do you fish these ? Would you use them on the end of a rig like a pirk of on their own ?

fish finder- one other thing to be aware of, that tackle industry can make much more money selling
you a speed jig then selling you a humble jelly worm, so obviously they are going to be marketed
at you in various ways, even if the jelly wworm is actually better!

thanks for the reply lads u all have a fair good point, i just like the idea of jigging i got a couple of bite me jigs and at a tenner a jig i would cry if i lost a few of them on a wreck, thats a cracking pollock ther by the way jim what line rod and reel do you use for your jigging jim

That would come down to the weight jig i am using. What weight are your jigs? Any link to pictures of them. A quick search brought up more leadheads than anything else. I have used heavy jigs (up to 500g) in very deep water over wrecks. I get a great kick using lighter jigs (100-150g) in shallower water. I would not use them all the time as I prefer a jighead and plastic in shallow water.

I got a couple ranging from 150g to 200,I got them on a site called southcoast fishing jigs, I wouldn't go any heavier because most of my fishing would be from the kayak in shallower water,it's hard to beat the soft plastics tho especially the savage sand eels,you can really work them down trough the kelp
