Hi lads would anyone know which one of these rods would suit spinning or plugging for bass,pollack,mackeral etc.

Most of it is crap especially the line it's like bait elastic

id say if your looking for the bass rod id go for the 2 piece one & stay away from the telescopic one,it might'nt be the best quilty gear but at least its cheap & would get a fella started off.

Started out with one of the lidl beachcasters.Got about 3 weeks out of it!Had my first encounter with heavy weed and the reel seat broke and slid down to the butt of the rod,it was only held on with a drop of glue Brought it back to the shop and got a full refund,no questions asked.

One of the best memories I had of last year was watching a drunk macky basher (who was giving it loads) using a lidl special, he caught a couple of mackerel, was hauling them up rocks, whatever happened next I missed, but can pressume... I heard the crack... he must have tried to whip the mackerel over his head, the rod snapped in two places ... he lost the rag.. and started to break the rod again meanwhile the mackerel most of them fell off the hooks and made it safely back...
Personally I would rather give my local tackle shop the money for better quality gear, ... just explain to them you want a cheapish outfit to try that wont break the bank account and wont break under stress they will advise you on the limits the set-up can take

i have to be honest and say i've had mixed results in the past with lidl products. i got the pike telescopic set up and the rod snapped with a string of 3 mackerel in the summer over clean ground. but the glow lights and line (11kg & 14kg) were top notch. we do a lot of rough ground fishing and 2 of the reels i spooled are still going strong a full season on.
3 years ago i bought the 3 piece beach casting set up and the rod snapped on it's 6th outing. but the reel is still going strong as i use it as one of my every day use reels. it's landed 8lb thornies and 4lb ballans 3 summers on the trot without an issue. considering the whole set up was only £31 i can't really complain with it as some other overpriced okuma and penn fixed spool reels have died on me and the b-square reel has outlasted them all.
i know some of the lads got the fly fishing set up and had great sport with countless 4lb+ pollack on them without issue. i think stevecrow from the site was one of them.
and the box of plugs and lures for predatory fish sold like hotcakes too. when you consider the selection of stuff in the box for the price paid you really could'nt complain.
i know some of the bass fishing lads went for one particular lure in the box that was deadly for bass 2 summers back. and when you consider that you were getting a box of 7 lures for a fiver, it did'nt feel so bad when you were lure fishing over kelpy areas and lost a few.
i suppose you just have to take the good with the bad when it comes to the lidl gear. like some of the lads already said, some of it was pure muck , but some of it was outstanding value for money

the fly rod is dead on, use on regularly on smaller rivers - even landed a 4lb Grilse on it

in general you get what you pay for - its cheap tackle - fine enough for getting started - or occassional use by friends or kids with no gear of their own, and if there is a problem i find lidl are happy to give a repalcement or money back with no hassle .

I know these were great value but out of the 3 colours that were in the boxes i found that the green sticks were the only ones worth using, the red and blue just dont last long enough to remain useful in a standard 'creep' session.... Gets a bit inefficient when you get through 3-4packs of red/blue sticks in a single session

My local tackle shop would be Henrys, he's always been good to me over the years, and times I'd pop down for just a chat see how they are getting on, but its important to establish a good consumer -business relationship. that way anything new on the market they will try and get it in.

But have a word with your own local tackle shop, unless they are just gunning for the money, another great tackle shop that wont steer you wrong would be Gotcha Angling Greystones, or Anglers Paradise, I know theres a thread reviewing all the tackle shops some where on the boards. and I am sure the lads here would have their own opinion of shops as well

My sons for set up Seaspin rod and silstar reel costed €20, upgrading his gear this year I spent €80. again go in with a set budget, what type of area are you going to be fishing, rough ground, pier, beach? what type of weights are you most likely to use and work out the BEST system for you. (at the end of the day You want to walk out happy, the shop wants you to walk out happy for repeat business.

Example I upgraded my own gear recently, knew the ground and the fish I was after, needed a rod that would see the distance, (I did spend a huge sum but i was saving up for it) before spending I asked a couple of the lads I know, what their key rod was, and I figured this new rod was in the same bracket.
After spending the money, bringing the rod out several times, getting a good feel for it (still alot more power in it then I have tapped just yet ) I got a call from Henrys askin how the new set-up was, and now were inthe process of twiking it a bit more, well pleased.

Well as Kev said your local tackle shop can be invaluable for advice and good deals which I have got from Anglers Paradise and John in there wont steer you wrong and as tighlines will testify to the voucher he got in the raffle last year saw him get some amount of gear which he was using last Saturday in Waterford.

I found mixed results with the Lidl/Aldi gear.

the rods seem acceptable, with the telescopic beach caster being probably the pick of the bunch for its value.
however avoid the reels..

very poor quality.. broke the clutch on 2 on there first day's outing.

I was after something for conger bashing last year and asked for something cheap that would hold up to a decent conger, one place quoted me over 100 quid, tried dan in half way and he sorted me out for about 50 quid,rod and reel and they are well up to the job !

2 seasons ago bought 3 of the boat angling sets could not fault them full sets of macks with a pound weight no problems.
the kids used and abused them for 2 years. gave one away and lost 2 overboard not bad for 50 euros each.also lent one for a trip to kilmore and the guy had no hassle with it landing codling all day

the spools of line with the shockleader all in one are ok and very handy if its weedy i have the 15 lb one on a mag elite and have to say its grand ,the line is a different colour every 20 meters so when you are winding back you can tell how many meters you cast maybe not a good thing however if you get snagged you have no weak link at the shockleader so their will be tears clean ground only p.s they fill a 6500 just dandy!
as for the rods and reels i took one look and decided against wasting my money ,i have a fly outfit its ok for a cheapy and i still have starlights since 2001 ,dont know why i bought em ? just a bargain a suppose !

wouldnt go to h*nrys he tryed to charge me 140.00 for penn power stick and my m8 only bought one from that very shop only weeks before so i knew very well what the price was before i asked and i asked twice just to see if he would change, both times 140.00euro, my m8 got it for 100.00 the real price is 110.00... 1MOD edit, last time i ever buy stuff of him just get baits and lead from him now, his loss being greedy! ABC and RORY'S tackle much better especially ABC the man who owns it is sound always gives me a discount, even on tiny orders of like 15quid he will knock off a couple euro or throw you in somthing to sweetin it up, i dont even ask anymore he just cuts a few bob off for me and i say cheers pal c u again and everyones happy, he really is a top bloke the owner of ABC tackle. proper genuine prices

Not my experience with said shop or that of anybody else I know. I also think that you opinion is out of place in this topic.
