hi all. i have been using my Penn surf master 850 fixed spool reel a lot lately and Ive noticed a grinding noise coming from the roller on the bail arm

Ive had it apart , cleaned it out oiled and greased it up and it is still making the noise.? . it feels like there is something grating in the roller. could it be worn out? or damaged in some way.{ the reel was washed and cleaned after every session}. and can a new roller be bought?. any help on this one very much appreciated. thanks all.

you wont want to hear this but the reels are not very good and havent been made to last. i had a couple when they came out and broke one and sold the other straight after. i have bought 5 of the old penn 60 and 70 and they never miss a beat

There have been a number of discussions on the boards here in the Uk about this reel. The vast majority, including myself, agree that it's just north of useless and poorly made. Do yourself a favour and buy a Daiwa or Shimano.
I gave mine to a friend to use for roach fishing!!!!

I recently bought a Daiwa windcast and can say its lovely to use, so far so good

. I'd say with all the failed surfmaster 850s out there someone should be able to help out with a bail arm roller, try posting it in the wanted section
