Berkley Trilene 100% Fluorocarbon 20lb

I bought this for my leader (using Power Pro 33lb braid). I found it terrible in relation to abrasion qualities. I will certainly not be buying it again. I actually found that 14lb mono, same brand, fared much better. Lost a fair few bits and pieces with it. Anyone else use it and experience similar?

I have to ask were you using the leader for spinning/lure fishing? I have used this fluorocarbon for snoods in the past it's very wiry and stiff not really suitable for leader material. Never had a problem with the abrasion qualities although like all fluorocarbons it splits and peels in strands when subject to abrasion.

Yes, it was used as a leader for lures. Specifically, I trotted jelly worms in a very rocky tidal rip. I didn't have any issues using surface lures however.

I find it tangles really easily when used for hooklength and is hopeless in anywhere slightly abrasive. If you are after pollack I find 60lb Sakuma works well through the rocks and kelp.

Thanks for that. I just got Shakespeare Omni X SW 30lb. You think I should go higher than 30?

I only use the 60lb stuff for leader because it copes well with the rocks. The braid I use is old 28lb stuff from veals and I haven't had any trouble with it for pollack.

Thanks for the replies b-digger. I used the 30lb Omni X today and was very impressed with it. Hit a fair few snags today and managed to keep my gear. However, I now have a new problem. My hooks are bending

this might seem as a silly question but why are you using a leader with less breaking strain then your main line in a rocky area? ive been using 30lb stren for my leader when lure fishing with braid and have had no problems with it.

I thought that fluro or mono would be more resistant to abrasive snaps

ye it would be alright. i just use a heaver leader so that if you get stuck ye can give it a good bit of a yank and not have to worry about the leader snapping and losing an expensive lure.
