This might sound a bit stupid
but can some one explain to me how they work ???
If the boots are not attached what stops you from getting your feet wet.

Instead of having a boot attached, they have waterproof socks. You wear them with wading boots. Not really a great idea for sea angling , more suited to walking in shallow streams and rivers. Wading boots are like hiking boots but designed for walking in water.

i have a pair i wear in the summer they are fine for everything i do just not warm in the winter, when i use neoprean waders if i think i,m gonna go for a paddle, they are light waterproof and breathable the boots can have felt or cleated soles and studs can be added for extra grip, not warm at all but great for the spring summer and autum when neoprean can melt you

bootless waders are grand for the sea. if you get a pair try and get get a pair of boots with no metal parts eg the eyelets for the laces are usually metal. i know a guy who uses basketball runner boots when wading on sand and they are great. you might need to go up a size or 2 so try and try them on with the waders on if you can.
