Digging out the old sea fishing gear!

Tue Jan 04, 2011 12:22 pm

Hi folks
First post on here so apologies if this is in the wrong section!
I'm just about to get back into my old sea fishing ways - been sea fishing for nigh on 25 years on and off. Thing is my old rods and reels may need replacing, but I'm far from minted so want to try to keep things on a budget and replace bits and pieces at a time!
First thing I'd like to replace is my old Daiwa multiplier rung a supercast fast tip beachcaster, the old ceramic ring linings have seen their day - used to use this rod for beach fishing as it was nice and light and cast well OTG and had great bite detection. Anyone any ideas what'd be a good rod to replace it with?
Also, I've never used any of the new(to me anyway!) magnetic braked multipliers? Are they worth the £? I use Abu 6500's (elite's + and old synchro) and a penn 535 gs (great on the rocks!). I like the sounds of the penn 525 mag though.

Paul.

good stuff did the same few short years ago meself...with regret went for mostly low cost gear at the start (although the fish didn't mind... :D )...have now slowly built up good selection of mid range gear Abu and Shimano reels (runnin mono and braid...good stuff indeed) paired with selection of 9-10ft spinning/rock/pier and 13-15ft surf rods (always use the 13ft and with quick rig change can be mackeral bashin in minutes) find the 15ft just to big for hours bashin!...best luck

Thanks for the reply gerry
Was always used to fishing with a 12' surf rod (sometimes with reducer when I was experimenting with multiplier positions) Are the longer 14' - 15' not hard to get used to casting with? I'm not the tallest - a few hairs off 5'10"!

the new 515 penn would be a good choice and should last a lifetime if looked after ,for multi work 13 foot is a good length ,their are so many rods to choose from its mind blowing spend money on a quality rod just choose the one that suits you as its an expensive mistake if you get it wrong
