Shimano Aerlex XS 8000 vs. Daiwa Emcast Sport 6000

I know I probably shouldn't be starting a new thread since I've one open enquiring about Okuma reels.....

I was considering one of the Budget Okuma, Mitchell or Shakespeare reels but trawling Google I just can't see to find enough people with experience of them. I'm about to take the plunge on either a Shimano or a Daiwa.

Lots of people have and rate the Aerlex. Some rate the Daiwa more highly than the Aerlex. This seems to be mainly based on the pulling power/retrieve rate. But, from the posts I've read they've been described as being bombproof right through to if you even get one grain of salt on them they're done for. So....kinda a bit iffy. Is the Aerlex even being made anymore? It's not in Shimano's new catalogue.

On Anglingdirect.co.uk the Shimano is £74.99 and the Daiwa is £54.99. The difference in price is a tripod to rest my poor tired arms :D

the daiwa emcast sport is a grand reel - i totally abuse my and granted the paint falls off - but doesnt mind regular soakings in sea water or sinking in sand

still going strong 2 years later - well able to bring a treble of dogs

Well, went for the Daiwa. Looking forward to finally getting around to using my beach rod now. It's been siting in the corner taunting me :x
