what is your favourite hook for blue shark fishing?
and what size?

hi junior,
i think its important to use a strong hook as they will bend straight weak wire,
i think around 10/0 is the right size for a whole mackerel.
in the photo is a mustad 7732S 10/0. i bought it off
http://www.leadertec.com/they are very good to deal with
i guess any strong 10/0 is much the same

Check out Ukhooks and Rokmax and you will see how they make up their shark traces and you can then buy the pieces.
Might be a good idea to buy 1 shark trace from them and then copy.

i reckon the meat hook would be grand, you also need to use around 12 feet of 200lb wire,
the blues typically wrap up in the trace and then think something is holding their
tail and bite at that end of the trace. a common misunderstanding is that this
is only to resist the abrasion of the skin. mono is about as much use as 200lb wire
is for mullet fishing
i thing it is good to put a powerful swivel and a 4oz barrell lead 4 foot up from the
hook

thanks jw
what class rod would you use?
do you use mono yeah
Sat Sep 11, 2010 1:14 pm
I bought a 20/30lb class ugly stick for blues but had no chance to use it yet
Sat Sep 11, 2010 7:58 pm
that sounds right
i dont think the rod makes a pile of
difference
mono is essential the skipper wont
let you use braid as it ruins the setup
its worth putting on new mono
its a consumable item once stretched
i think around 40lb is good

they look like good hooks, if it's able to bend those you probably dont want it flapping about
on the deck beside you anyway
