I got this reel from USA earlier in the year, I had only tried it once i had seven small Pollock on it felt really smooth but these fish put no pressure on the reel. I used the reel in Waterford and had three 5lb Bass on it ,it was able to handle these fish no problem;I had previously being using a shimano Technium 4000 which is a lovely little reel but for now will be my back up reel.My only problem with the Saros is I should have got two of them.

Roll on my next trip to the states.

buy a stradic next. saros is a great real but what separates it from the stradic and up is worm drive oscillation, which it has not. The worm drive is like a levelwind in your reel versus your reel that uses a gear to oscilate (like old steam locomotive). I almost bought a saros but did not because of this. still a great reel though!
I do reel repair here in seattle and see a lot of reels that are getting hit by big salmon everyday. I think your best bet is to not worry about the weight battles, 6.9oz vs 7.1oz, and get old school made in japan shimano. stradic fh is newest i want. I see the new calcutta b and TE all the time and they are crap. no comparison to my original calcutta a's. too much CNC not enough metal so they rot in the salt after a couple seasons. I have a customer I call "reel abuser #1", his reels always need new bearings but the frame on his old calcutta is perfect while his TE (total d-efficiency)is rotting to death. I know i went way off topic but you guys who like to fish need to buy up the old stuff. those are lifetime reels the new ones are not. let me know what you are looking for. I go to california a couple times a year just to buy reels, those pretty boys always need something new and lighter for their weak wrists. also I have not seen a saros that has had much salt use, so i dont know if it has any weaknesses/design flaws, but if it is anything like the calcuttas i would open it up and "paint" the inside frame with a light coat of reel grease to prevent corrosion. s*** you might as well do it to the rotor as well. aluminum and saltwater have never liked each other.

Thanks for that. I read reviews of people who had the Saros and the Stradic there was very little to choose between the two the biggest difference seemed to be the 50$ and the Saros has a waterproof front drag.
