New set up!!!!

Hi,

I'm looking to get my self a new set up at the minute but im having a hard time decideing what to go for, i want a fixed spool rod and reel that will get me out past 100yrds but will be sensitive enough to see a shy bite, i have around 300 to spend so i think i should be able to get quite a good set up?

Any idea's would be kindly accepted?? Thanks

most decent rods and reels should get you out 100yards if your casting properly.

my fixed spool set up is an ian golds super match extra(14ft 10in) paired with a shakespeare powerplay K2 70 fs reel. ive 15lb mono on one spool and 20lb braid on the other. this should get you a little change out of your budget. might be better reels out there tho and the longer rod might not suit you..

i had tiny strap congers picking at the baits the other night and the rod showed them all, worst thing was i only connected with 1 .

Only second season beach fishing so still just finding my feet really, i had my eye on a penn surfmaster or shimano aerlex 8000, the rod i was looking at was daiwa supercast. I dont know much about the Ian Golds range but i'l send him a PM and see what ithink.

Can anyone else add anything to this or give me an idea of what you think of the reels and rod i mentioned??

dont get a surfmaster 750/850. more people have broken them than you can shake a stick at . if you can get an older model surfmaster 60 or 70 them youll do well. not made anymore but crackin reels. they show up every now and then on ebay but not too often.

I don't use fixed spools for sea fishing, but do a lot of coarse fishing and a few mates use egg whisks in the sea. You'll not go far wrong with any Shimano, get the best one you can and you'll be spot on.

As for the rods, Supercasts are top notch for the money. I'm not sure what kind of ground you're fishing over but they're a good all round rod, with a few options within the range if memory serves me rightly. I've used a fair amount of Daiwa gear and never really come across anything hopeless (except the Sandstorm, that is pants).
