penn slammer liveliner 560L

Mon May 24, 2010 7:35 pm

picked this reel up last week in viking tackle for baitfishing and boat use.
pros :its very tough ,great drag, very smooth, designed for saltwater use. 30 yards of backing 300 meters of 20lb braid plus tapered shock
cons:its heavey for its size
i would compare it to a 525 in build quality and finish but cant really do that till its over ten years old
reason for purchase my shimano baitrunner has seen too much saltwater action  and i,m fecked if i,m gonna take it apart

just a quick update :?
three months on and well tested, casting 4 oz leads on my long beach rod ,bass ,smoothies and plenty of dogs ,out on the boat with 6 oz lead and 6 mac hauled up without a strain ,drag is good and smooth no sign of any corrosion anywhere despite being regularly well soaked with sea spray and sandblasted ,if you are looking for a tough fixed spool for light beach and boat work with a baitrunner i would recomend this reel ,i think casting over 4 oz and bait could be a bit too much for such a small spooled reel but with 20lb braid and 40lb shock its grand 8)

I have one of these for the last two years and find them brilliant,I brought it to Costa Rica and used it freelining live sprats for spanish mackeral and kingfish(albeit small ones) and it handled no probelm. Good robust reel that doesnt require much maintenance.

its the 560L i,m using it quite a small reel and for its size it is quite heavey compared to other reels ,i just got fed up with big pit monters on my long rod as most of the time 4oz of lead and light line is all i need ,i use it for spinning and feathering aswell ,the baitrunner is ideal for bass and smoothy fishing so it does alot of different tasks i,ve had bass to 9lb and even better smoothys to 6lb with no rods going seaward and a great fight on the braid ,mono just soak,s too much of the fight out of a decent fish

have one ordered, let you know how it teams up with the Tubertini Gorilla Boat AP 350, tried the Ultegra XTB 1400 with it, bit too heavy for my liking but a smashing beach reel FWIW
