This gear any good? :/

Fri May 21, 2010 1:29 am

As im only really starting up again, I've decided to just buy some cheap gear starting off, as cant afford nothing great YET!, so seen a leeda rod and reel, the rod is leeda assassin, uptide rod, 9 1/2 foot, 4-10oz. The reel is a size 40 and is also part of the assassin range of leeda products!

Anybody any ideas if these will be ok for starting out? (again) will be used for beach and maybe from some rocks, peirs, etc.

hehe, have to buy my own gear now as Im getting tired of borrowing my dads gear :|

so any suggestions, hints and tips will be great!

thanks :)

Get yourself down to your local tackle shop and discuss with them, they will sort you out within your budget, would stay away from an uptide rod from the beach.

When you have a few quid saved buy good quality second hand gear mate. It'll last longer and you'll get much more enjoyment using it.

Get a proper beach rod ( at least 12 foot ) and you can use it anywhere.

if you havent got the money for decent gear just wait, i often bought cheap gear when i wasnt as into fishin but it usually ends up costing you more in the long run. if your da dont mind you using his gear then keep using it till you can get enough money together for a decent set up, you'd get a good shakespear set up for about 80, thats rod and reel. or if you want something straight away get a 12ft sonik off ebay, there a lovely budget rod, i think there only about 30 euro, and some angling shops sell sonik rods so they cant be that bad

heres a shakespeare tidewater, with p+p it would only cost ya 37.50

Speak to Harry in Belfast Angling Centre or Alister in Tight Lines either of them will be able to sore you out. If you tell them what you want and how much you want to spend they can keep an eye out for gear for you. Alister in particular takes a lot of stuff in part exchange so he usually has a good range of kit.
