What type of braid

Just wondering what type of braid to use on my Penn Senator 4/0 reel which I use with a 20-30lb rod for cod,pollock and ling.

i use spyderwire on my senator

Power Pro, this braid has near zero stretch, unbelievable strength for the diameter and awesome abrasion resistance. I use it for all my boat reels. Never had any issues.

That's great how much braid would I need to get for the senator 300 or 500 yards

have used a few braids all very similar...most float and you needed to get use to the 'false' bite as they are very sensitive (not a major prob) tend to use 60-80lb as its the same dia as 20lb mono and 300yrds fills most reels with a bit to spare...check out recommend braid knots if you are fishing for the big stuff (tope etc) to avoid knot slip! otherwise the usual will do...

It's time for another stupid question why all the different colours red,yellow,green ect

well colour is your choice...the brighter (yellow) you can see the line clearly for some distance...mixed colours on single spool shows the line in 50yds steps...handy for boats when your lookin for depth count...hope that helps

Don't forget your mono backing to fill out the spool on the Senator.....

m8 unlike mono keep braid few mil shy of the full spool stops 'birds nests' and bad tangles...when the winds blowin...Henry Gilby tip...which has served me well!...also as there is no 'give' keep the drag on the loose side when yer fishing for the big stuff...enjoy the baid

Havent used Power Pro myself but got a load of 30lb Berkley Fireline (the 'round' stuff) a couple of years back. Very impressed with it - it doesn't 'dig in' to line already on the spool when under pressure compared to the older stuff. I've used this for mixed ground boat fishing - the feedback is excellent - you can feel the contours of the sea bed right through the rod. I've also used Daiwa braid (Tournament I think) on a light spinning outfit - silky smooth and easy on the fingers too. I'd say once you steer clear of the cheaper rough braids (they'd cut the f***ing hands off you!) you can't go too far wrong. I'd definitely go with suggestions from gerryl and tanglerat on the backing and drag. I would generally tie a few metres of lower breaking strain mono onto the business end of the braid - it gives that little bit of stretch which hopefully reduces the risk of line break with a heavy hitter and it's easier to handle than braid when lifting or netting a fish...
