Distance can be a key for the shad Fishing Fintan. You are casting 40 - 50 plus yards and you will be throwing 13 Gram lures as well so unless you are very used to a bait caster I would steer away from them. I have a quite a few and I might bring one for a try this year, but my primary outfit will be a small fixed spool. I use a 4000 size, but 2500 will be fine as well. I use the 4000 size for bass as well, so like something a wee bit bigger. You can get the lower end shimano's for about 50 - 60 yo yo's

I have the Shimano Exage 4000 for spinning Fintan. They are a great little reel and I used it for the shad last year. Loaded with 4lb line I was able to cast no problem with it. They have front and rear drag available and they are about €80.
