If you do use braid use a mono leader!

Yah,
I heard that if the hook goes back onto braid that its so soft it can damage your line

Re: braid

well if the braid is under tension and it touches a rock it will snap..so thats why a mono leader is reccomended...and the mono doesnt cut into a wet finger when casting!

true and true again. Imagine headin into ane with a sliced up finger from braid

Go with braid. And only consider powerpro, everything else is trash. Make sure it beds in properly by attaching a weight and having a few casts first to wet the line and help it settle. Be VERY careful to not overfill the spool, this is the main cause of wind knots. If your really worried about wind knots just go with a heavier braid, say 8kg.

Aside from that the only reasons i see for not using it would be cost and if you are always using it on super rough marks, but i'm going to assume you aren't as you mentioned salmon and sea trout in your list.

I think im headin towards mono because ill be fishin rock marks for bass and pollack

Well i have used braid for the last few years and have never had it let go against a rock, maybe thats just lucky but i think people worry about it too much. its very unlikely to happen in my opinion.

But hey, its personal choice.

I use braid now on all my fixed spools, like the lads have said dont fill the spool too high and use a mono leader. Last year i caught a specimen smoothhound on braid and the scrap was awsome, this year im hoping to be able to connect with one using the very light ian golds enticer and a 3500 size bait runner with 20lb braid and a 35lb mono leader, hope to hook up with a big hound and a few bass, would be great to hook a few fish on such light tackle and braid line.

How do you attach a leader

Re: braid

most fixed spools come with 2 spools. why not put braid on one and mono on the other.

ive only used braid a few times and caught nothin but weed on it so far but even that gave a good scrap   .
i got mine from a guy on ebay in the states. pretty cheap if you compare it to prices here or the uk

€35 for 500yards delivered compared to about €35/40 for 308yards here but i got mine a little cheaper(€30) by bidding.
this is the guy i used. had it 4 days later.

Have to agree with trout hunter, braid all the way for bass.....Fished both last year and nothing compares to the sensation when a bass strikes..

I only use braid, between 10 - 30 lb mostly 15 lb. you must use a backing of mono and a s long a mono leader as you are comfortable with. I tie on the mono leader useing a uni-uni knot and connect the lure with a duo lock snap. If you using a lure that spins I will need a swivel somwear in the connection.

Hey, I used braid for the first time last weekend. I love it now. the ammount of movement you can put into a lure is unreal. I try the same lure on my mates rod with mono and it didnt perform half as well! get some whats the worst that could happen? :D
