I was thinking of getting the Greys Apollo MK2 Waterproof Hooded Smock and Waterprooof Overtrousers from veals on my next order. I bought an AA smock on good reviews on forums only to see they had a reputation for leaking like a sieve by the time it arrived. So looking for long term useage reports on how durable these waterproofs are as well as general reviews.

Hi Donagh,
I had the Mk1 Jacket and it was class. No leaks of 2 years of constant use. The waterproof zip did fail after a year though. Was going well till it was nicked in Cove last year. Why someone took a fancy to a Mackerel smelling jacket is beyond me, but there you go. I bought mine after seeing how well it performed for Sean Ivory. Not sure if he still has his, but they are a very good jacket. I'll be ordering a new one myself in the coming days.

i have them two years now and i find them excellent
every now and then rub a bit of vaseoline on the zips
and you should have no problems.

Hi Donagh, like Kevin says the old range was class. I upgraded to the Mark II over a year ago and while its decent gear I didnt think it was as good as the old stuff. Little things like pockets ripping easily, just dont think its of the same standard.

Bought the hooded smock and had to use it in the rain that caused the flooding in Cork. I was out in those downpours for up to 2 hours at a time of continuous rain without a leak(wasn't fishing by the way

),so no complaints here.

The smock is savage Donagh, i've been out in some horrific weather and stayed warm and dry, that and the imax smock are both superb

It's seems to be a small bit mixed on the mark 2. Thanks for the replies. I'll have to think whether I should go for an IMAX or the apollo water proofs or maybe something else. I used a helly hanson jacket before and it was superb but I'm not sure where I would buy one now. Any ideas?

I have the Apollo mk 2 jacket.. I have been in some crazy downpours in it and its great.. I use imax salophettes and are grand as well.
hard to beat a float suit for warmth though. I have had my Sundridge SAS for 4 years.. hasnt leaked once... Its hard to get used to the odour again though.. I actually found a sandeel in handwarmer pockets last time i was out.... I thought it was a sweet until I pulled out this guey mess. not nice.. but I did catch a couple of fish...
anyways.. apollo are good
