13'-14' Beachcaster for 4-7oz - opinions?

Fri Jul 10, 2009 4:17 pm

Thinking forwards in time to the autumn here ..... I will be looking to get a new pair of long distance beachcasters after the summer hols.
Lengths 13 - 14 feet. Throwing 4-6oz, 90% of the time. Multiplier setup with 6500c or CT or 7HT. Pendalum, side and overhead casting. Preferred reel position high-ish to keep out the gritty nasty bits that get everywhere.

So I'm looking right now at the Sonik 13 (poss 14 but seems a bit long for a two piece!) or the Daiwa TD Surfbreaker 13,

Anyone who has used both out there and compared? I'd appreciate your comments.
Or poss meet on a session for a cast.

depend,s on your budget really 13.6 feet is my preference theirs so many rods out there the sonic wouldnt have the most delicate of tips but till you cast a rod you never know if its gonna suit you or your casting style or budget, penn do some three section rods for multi that would be easier for transport and i think ian golds is bringing some new models out soon too?

It's not a rush job.

I don't know anyone with the Six&bait, so I hadn't considered them. Will have to pop in to Bray and have a looksee.

That's interesting news about the Ian Gold rods.

Excellent rods they are too, we had the chance to test some of them on the court last year and there preformance was outstanding, equal to any of the top-end/high proformance rods on the market but less expencive!, i cast just over 250yds with the "International Match" and Andrew.G did 260+ with the "Extractor", they are very user friendly rods and deceptivly powerfull but with a great fishing tip, what more could you ask for.

I liked the match so much i now have one and ill be giving it the once over again as soon as the rain stops and will get a bit of a review up..

I've been testing out the Ian Golds Premier Match 4.06m / 13' 4" for the last week and i must say i love it great fishing tip capable of detecting pin whiting and micro dabs with ease yet plenty of back bone for launching big baits at distance. I've had smoothies over 6lbs 8ozs on it the rod handled them lovely the rod flexing and taking the pressure each time the fish made a run... the finish is first class black with silver guide rings and silver thread above and below the guides... i'm so happy with it that its staying in the bag.... showed a few of the lads of the site the rod and one has already put an order in... they due to go on general sale within the next week or two and i'd highly recommend you check them out they're very reasonably priced for such a quality piece of kit and will certainly stand up to the the "high end" rods already in the market...
