Tripod recommendations ...

I need to buy a decent tripod for night fishing for 2 x twelve footers.

Can anyone advise me to look at some of the better quality choices? Im getting back into saltwater angling so I'm not as up to date as I would like to be . I'm trying to weight up the pros and cons between the Ian Golds telescopic vs the Mustad vs the Veals Pro.

your best bet is either the veals pro or ian golds, i have the veals pro and find it great, its all metal so if it falls the head and cups dont break. Ian golds is the most popular and has proven itself time after time, both are good choices and either one should do, dont know too much about the mustad one, sorry cant help you there

yup, ian golds is the only one to consider really, although it is worth getting the 6' supermatch over the telescopic, less things to go wrong on it.

I use Ian Golds... never had a problem... using it and maintaining it...

i use both the ian golds and the mustad one - both are excellent - but if pushed i would go for the mustad as its heavier and takes a bit more beating

Have the same 6ft supermatch with ages - no problems - never brke anthing on it and it gets well abused

Iv a breakaway one which has a mind of its own and its legs fall off now and again or the cup goes missing I think ill go for the Ian Gold one...

i have the shakespeare salt tripod but wouldnt reccommend it. its very heavy for carrying any kind of distance and the cups and top rests have to be taken off when packing up. also the back leg is sharp and ive cut myself a few times off it.
its very sturdy tho and wont blow over. if you fish near the car its very good, especially in high winds but any further than a 5 min walk and it'll wear you out.

I have the Daiwa tripod, couldn't recommend it, think i fell for the trap of things new and shiny on paper it sounded like the bees knees but it definately is not

I use the Parker tripod, its all aluminium, almost unbreakable, double head and cups with extending front legs and lamp hook, find it very light and sturdy, lots of spares and addons available, pricewise not too bad either.

They are indeed, they even come with a Parker sticker on them. I have one myself and I think they are a great bit of kit alright and if I remember correctly didn't cost me very much due to the exchange rate at the time. I liked the fact that they are constructed almost entirely from aluminum, cups and all so they aren't going to break easily. They look similar to older Gold ones and are a little bulkier than the current Golds ones but not noticeably heavier. Tbh I don't think you would go far wrong with either.
