You had better let us know if it is trout fishing in a river (big r small) or is it in a lake (big r small) as you may not be able to get one outfit for both. What you don't want is an outfit that isnt suitable for either because you will get frustrated and give up. You could end up foolin yerself here and wastin money.
Fly rods are rated according to the line weight. A standard river trout rod for a small river would be say 8ft 6in and rated for a 5 line. A standard lake rod might be 10ft long and rated for a 7 line. A saltwater fly rod would be around 9ft long and rated for a 10 line. Some people use double handed rods (normally for salmon) in saltwater. These would be say 13ft long and rated for a 10 line.
You wouldnt be able to present a big bass fly properly on a little 5 weight outfit and the same goes for a tiny trout fly on a 10 weight saltwater rod.
It is possible to get a lake rod rated for a 7 or 8 weight line and use it in the sea for bass and also on lakes for trout. Lots of people do this. It may not last you that long though after the saltwater! Same goes for the reel and the line.
Let us know exactly wot kind of trout fishing you intend to do and I will give you my opinion as to whether the standard outfit would be in any way practical for saltwater also. I'm sure some other site members will offer their advice too.

Girls - please. Don't confuse the lad. There's a difference between "cheap" and "inexpensive." the latter is when you buy it youself and the former when you get it as a present and pretend to be grateful.
And don't forget the annual Lidl fishing tackle sale - usually around March. You might be lucky with the fly fishing stuff this year....

Whatever outfit you buy, if you haven't done much fly fishin before it would be well worth lookin into some castin tuition at the start. It makes a massive difference to your presentation if you can cast well. Better presentation tends to mean more fish.
