New Reel

Gonna treat myelf to a new reel for Xmas . Deciding for either a Shimano Stradic ST5000FI
or Techium 5000FB. both are ldeal weight for my rod. stradic is a bit more expensive though.Anyone have any of these reels? If so , whats the verdict?

I have both. Very good reels and they will last if you wash em and oil em. Stradic has a very quick gear ration which can be useful at times. Tape the spools before you fill em with line though. You can have a look at a post I put up as a reply on the lures section as to why to do this. If your going to buy a stradic don't pay over the odds for it because there is a new model in coming out after christmas. If you want I can pm you about where I got mine at a good price.

I have 3 Stradic FIs (3000,5000,8000) and have to say I think they are the bizz. If you are near Dublin or( Wexford east coast on a Sunday), you can have alook at them.

I have the smaller 4000FI Stradic and its a lovely little reel, very smooth and its never let me down. I much prefer it to my older 4000RB rear drag Stradic, it seems much sturdier and smoother, plus it came with a spare metal spool. In fact I've just decided I'm going buy myself a 5000FI Stradic to replace it next time I'm over in the States. I'm not sure how the Stradic compares with the Techium but I don't you'll go wrong with either.

They are both very smooth reels. The stradic is that bit quicker. Also it is now possible to buy spare spools for the 4000 stradics (the better one and not the spare one). Some people have a preference for the front drag, and some for the rear drag. neither should be smoother than the other. People who like the rear drag often go for it becaus of the fightin leaver. Those who prefer the front drag seem to like it because it seems to balance better on a lighter rod. I tend to agree with this theory for lighter rods, say 10 to 60gr. For heavier rods like say the greys seaspin then the rear drag seems just as good.

thanks for the info shoreking - will keep it to myself. It's to go with a grey seaspin but personally I prefer Front drag as opposed to rear - no particular reason , suppose it's more habit than anything. will check out those dealers........thanks
