Okuma magnetix

Fri Nov 07, 2008 1:02 am

I'm trying to persuade the missus to get me a new reel for crimbo, and the Okuma magnetix is looking good at the minute

Does anyone on here have one, and what do you think of them

They are going for £60 - 70 at the moment, and look like good value

Have used an Okuma fixed spool for a while now, and have no complaints

Also, I have never used a multiplier before. Should I go for a level-wind or open cage :?

Hey Vamper,

I have two of these reels. Cracking reel for the money and they have excellent cast control as well. If you are beach fishing go for one without the level wind. The 20 size is plenty for Irish beaches.

Hi Vamper

Like Mac said great reel for the money. I have had mine since March and I can't fault it. I would avoid the one with the level wind though.

Cheers for the advice guys

Have heard nightmare stories about over-runs with multis, so magnetic braking seems to be the way to go

Also, with the wife buying it, it will give me more of an excuse to get out fishing. Something along the lines of "I'm just showing my appreciation of you present dear. it would be such a shame for me to be ungrateful and not use it
