Large Shore Casting Multipliers

Lads,

In terms of large shore casting multipliers the usual suspects are:
Slosh 30
Penn 535

What other options are there? I have had a look at magging an Avet reel, is the Shimano Trinidad, Daiwa Saltiga an option, as they both have basic centrifugal braking...? I'm looking for biggest line capacity I can get while still being reasonably castable

liamo penn do a penn 545 and the new diawa reels go up to slx50shv which should do your job!!!to mag an avet reel is not a big job and they are a very good reel aswell very robust.i also think abu done a 10000 size reel which was very castable ,think a lot of guys use them for shark fishing from the shore.

I use a shimano tld 15/30 for some of my heavy work it casts ok if you have good thumb control with the spool and use a heavy grease type of oil in the bearings.

Right enough John Abu have made some good large casting reels, 7000c, 7500c both come in a CT version great for casting, 9000c and 10,000c also great but IMHO the 8000c comes out the best of the bunch, they discontinued the 8000c some time ago (Pete Coogan cant even get the parts to build one now) but if you can find a good one you wont regret buying it.......in the dark with 20lb line waking hard as you like, imposible to nest almost....ah! the memories

Abu brought out the new 7000ct Mag a few months back, I have two of them here, never used them yet, they look and feel OK a few sessions will tell the story better though....watch this space as they say

I was replying last night when I got hit with a power outage. I must get a little ups for the PC. Anyway, I really like the Okuma Magnatex 30 or if you want really big you could try the 45. I think the 30 would be plenty for anything Ireland could throw at it. I have fished it with 20 and 25lb main line with braid as a backing. The adjustable magnetic braking is IMO what puts it ahead of the rest. You don't need to be good at feathering the spool during the cast. Just pop it on full mags and cast away and you can reduce the effect depending on the conditions.

Best thing is that they are about 100 yo yo's

would certainly rec the daiwa slx 30 free floating spool system,
tough as old boots, and will outcast the rest by considerable margins

Tom.[/quote] i have a very rare abu 8500 with no ratchet from 1974 that i ocasionaly use in the boat never tried to cast it as it dont have any brakes i wonder did the 8000c have brakes and ratchet.

The 8000C was identical to the 9000 other than being a narrow version which made them easier to cast even though the 9 was excellent.

But seriously if you want to set up the larger reels they are not that hard to eventually get sorted out with blocks and oil.

My memory is going...I think the 8000c and 9000c had blocks..almost sure they did otherwise not seeing them when they were stripped would have probably stuck in my mind more......does the 8500 have blocks ?

Seriously, I have a standing order with Peter Coogan that if he finds enough parts to go ahead and make one or two even....the problem is the side plates, the factory have stock of most parts for the 8000c but no side plates and they wont make any.

the 8500 does not have any brakes or ratchet. the one i have was originally blue over brass plates which i stripped years ago never quite finished it .
i am now thinking of going back to blue because its so uncommon.
the only prob with mine is there is a small bit of corrosion on the spool edge.
i think all of the abus suffer with this.

I had an original black 8000c with a narrow spool which had brake blocks ! Good reel . 2 speed gears aswell .

Same here...automatic gears too...once it felt resistance the gear dropped itself, couldnt nest it if you tried!
