when i fish portaferry peir i like to a feeder rod, 6Ibs mainlines 4Ibs hooklengths size 12- 18 hooks and earth worms as bait.
i sometimes use a waggler but normally a runnin leger.
i get good wrasse normalle 3-4Ibs on this.
i think it is just as good as proper sea gear.
does any one else use this gear or am i the only mental one

dan the only thing to watch out for is the sea water damaging the gear after a while ,salt water is very corrosive as you know, so give it a good wash down with luke warm soapy water after ever use .or sooner or later the salt water will get to it .

You might wan't to step up the strenght of your main line as well. I would be looking more at 10lb or 12lb for Wrassing, especially as you have to bully them away from the rocks. Other than that, just give the fresh Water stuff a good wash after every trip.

I have always used a 3lb test ugly stick carp rod as my bass rod / light beach rod and have never had a problem other than above and the salt build up but a good scrub and its sorted. If you look and read more and more fresh water kit and ideas are crossing over to the salt so may just try the light line for some good fighting wrasse sounds more a challenge
